Greenwich Technology Advisors (GTA) is a group of
investment bankers, formerly of SoundView Technology Group, dedicated
to meeting the M&A advisory needs of technology companies. Since
1998, GTA's team has completed 47 transactions for technology
companies, aggregating over $24 billion, including 26 merger &
acquisition transactions aggregating over $14 billion.
A successful M&A transaction demands a unique blend
of transaction execution experience and industry-specific knowledge. In
no field is this more true than in technology, where the value placed
on a business is dependent on more than a multiple of EBITDA or
revenue. Technology companies are valued on a vision shared by buyer
and seller: the ability of a new technology or a new approach to affect
markets, often in disruptive ways. Maximizing value for a technology
client therefore requires an investment bank that understands the power
of technology to alter competitive landscapes and that can communicate
that potential to a prospective buyer.
Unfortunately, traditional investment banks now have a
knowledge void that impairs their ability to maximize values for their
technology clients. One of the results of the late 1990's technology
"bubble" burst was the public disclosure of the failure by investment
banks to avoid conflicts of interest between investors and corporate
clients. This led to the now legally required separation of research
from banking. Traditional investment bankers, no longer able to utilize
their research analysts to generate ideas and understand technologies,
often can no longer provide meaningful strategic advice to their
clients in technology industries. In contrast, at GTA all of our
industry knowledge resides within our investment banking team.
